Hips
The hip is a joint that connects the thigh bone (femur) and the hip bone (pelvis). The hip joint consists of bones, cartilage, synovium, bursa, ligaments, tendons and muscle. The hip provides balance and support for the upper body, enables movement of the upper leg, and holds body weight. Hip joints are usually strong, but running, contact sports, or falling can cause serious injury. Common conditions that affect the hip joints include strains, bursitis, dislocation, fractures, and autoimmune diseases (such as arthritis).
