Knees
The knee is the largest joint in the body that connects the lower and upper legs. It consists of three bones – femur (thigh bone), tibia (shin bone) and patella (kneecap). The meniscus (cartilage) sit between the femur and tibia, and they reduce friction and distribute body weight across the joint. The bones are supported by ligaments and tendons including quadriceps tendon, medial collateral ligament (MCL), lateral collateral ligament (LCL), anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and posterior cruciate ligament (PCL).
The knee can be affected by damage to the bones or connective tissue resulting in tears, sprains, fractures, hyperextension, arthritis, tendinitis, osteoporosis, and more.
