Female Pelvic Area
The pelvis is the lower part of the torso, and it is located between the abdomen and the legs. The bones of the pelvis comprise the hip bones, sacrum, and coccyx. It supports the intestines, and contains the bladder and reproductive organs. The female pelvis is broader and wider than the male pelvis because it provides enough space for a baby to develop and pass through the birth canal. The female pelvis is made up of organs (uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, cervix, vagina, rectum, bladder and urethra), bones, muscles and ligaments.
There are a multitude of conditions that affect the female pelvic area including pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), pelvic organ prolapse, endometriosis, adenomyosis, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), fibroids, among others.
